Once we have installed and setup your wordpress site, the first thing you will want to do is to log-in to your admin dashboard. In order to do this, in your browser simply go to http://yoursite.com/wp-admin (obviously substituting yoursite.com with your own website address).
Enter your username and password and then click the log-in button.
As soon as you have logged in you will be taken to the admin area and the first screen, called the Dashboard. This may differ slightly depending on how your site has been set up.
Along the top is the Toolbar, which changes slightly depending on which screen you are on. Clicking your site name on this bar will take you to the front end of your website. Try it out now! Whilst you are logged in and viewing the front end of your site, you will see this toolbar along the top. To get back to the admin area simply click your site name again.
Back in your dashboard, at the top right you will see two tabs, Screen Options and Help. Screen Options allow you to choose which widgets are displayed so that you can customise it best for yourself. The options available will change depending on which section of the admin you are in. Checking and unchecking will display or hide the items. Give it a try and find out what works best for you.
Finally, the left hand column with a black background is your main way to navigate around the admin area. Depending on how your site has been set up, you may see more items than shown in fig.2. If you move your mouse slowly down the list a menu “fly-out”, offering you more options, where available. Clicking on the “parent” item will open it up. Generally, the main menu items that you will probably be interested in are POSTS and APPEARANCE. We may have set your website up slightly differently, and will have sent you further instructions on any customisations we made for you.
The next tutorial is how to add your content.
